Very nice story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I wasn't sure if it was going to have a paranormal element at first, and while I think it would have worked either way, being a horror magazine editor I was pretty excited to get a glimpse into the paranormal. As a side note, I loved the line "The first house sat behind a gate tall enough to keep God out."

Thank you for sharing this with me! Opening line draws you in immediately. "Tastes like burning money." The story reminded me of Fahrenheit 451 meets the Manson murders. "Sky's gone bruised purple," "We all have our accelerants," "behind a gate tall enough to keep God out." So many great descriptive details that create a unique sci-fi world. There's some great comments on society littered throughout the piece. The plot is strong and moves the reader along nicely. The only thing I felt I was missing personally was some character background/development. I was surprised to see Justine kiss Vic. Maybe some more backstory? If I missed that I apologize. Otherwise Thieves becoming heroes was a tight ending and I really enjoyed your work.
